About Us

Many years ago while working as a research programmer for the medical school at Indiana University, I decided to use my employee benefits to their fullest and work toward a PhD. As a computer programmer with young children, I looked for a field that combined my current interests and chose Instructional Systems Technology. You can think of this field as using technologies of all kinds to teach. My research revolved around character education and its effectiveness.

I am married to a man who decided at a young age to devote his life to making the world a better place. He has been running his own business since a very young age. While on maternity leave, I decided to give up my job at IU and run his business into a more comfortable profitability allowing me to work from home and spend more time with the kids. Although that business has a slightly different focus, many of the items sold by virtues 101 were produced for his business and are already popular. Virtues 101 was created to bring those products to the attention of a greater number of people.

We believe there is a strong relationship between emotions and virtues and that learning about virtues helps us to understand and have healthier emotions. This is how Virtues 101 was born. To help people learn this language, we have created a wide range of products that introduce both adults and children to the names and definitions of the character qualities that reside within them, and that are expressed in our daily interactions. From ABC Virtue Refrigerator Magnets for kids to Character Coins for adults, we want the words that describe your emotional environment to be as well known to you as the colors of your crayons or the letters of the alphabet.

We operate Virtues 101 as a division of Special Ideas Inc, our primary family business. Primarily we produce the items that people tell us they wish they had available to use in making the world a better place. Altogether we have a 4,000 sf warehouse and have produced over 1000 unique items.

Virtues 101.com is our newest outreach just for teachers, parents and others who work with children. We want to help you make character education and learning about virtues easy and fun.
